The M2M Method
Before committing money, understand what you are building.
The M2M Method is a practical way of testing whether an opportunity can become a viable business.
It is based on a simple idea. Before getting caught up in what something could become, we need to understand what the market actually wants, what the business can realistically deliver and whether the numbers make sense.
That starts with the market. Who is the customer? What do they need? How much demand is there? What are they prepared to pay? Who else is already supplying them?
From there, we look at the product or service and whether it fits the market. We then work through the practical side of the business, including production, costs, pricing, margins and the route from the business to the customer.
The different pieces have to work together. A good product is not enough if the market is too small. Strong demand doesn't help if the product cannot be produced at a competitive cost. Attractive margins on paper mean little if the business cannot actually get the product to the customer profitably.
That is why the M2M Method looks at the opportunity as a whole rather than focusing on one part of the business.
Just as importantly, we separate what is known from what is assumed. The purpose is not to build a case for something because we want it to work. The purpose is to test the evidence and understand what would need to be true for the opportunity to succeed.
The outcome is a clearer commercial decision.
Perhaps the opportunity is worth pursuing. Perhaps the idea needs to change. Perhaps you need more information before making a commitment. Or perhaps the numbers simply don't justify going ahead.
Any of those answers can save time and money.
You can use the M2M Method on its own when a formal commercial assessment is required, or follow the mentorship process once an opportunity has developed enough to warrant deeper investigation.
The aim is simple: understand the opportunity before you commit.
Market. Product. Economics. Customer. Route to market. Business. - Test it before you commit.
