IN THE WORKS

A FEW THINGS I'M WORKING ON.

I usually have a few ideas on the go. Some are still being researched, while others have developed far enough to start taking shape. They are more than ideas on paper. I am looking at where they could go, who they could be for and whether there is something worth developing further.

I don't put everything online, but these are a few of the things currently keeping me busy.

DE GOUDEN BUYS

Historical Investigation / Adventure

In 1693, the Dutch ship De Gouden Buys disappeared somewhere along the southern African coast.

The ship carried passengers and cargo on a journey that ended without a clear explanation. Over the centuries, the story has survived through historical records, old maps, written accounts and local stories. Some have also claimed the ship carried valuable cargo, suggesting a lost treasure may still lie somewhere along the coast.

That is where the story becomes particularly interesting.

De Gouden Buys investigates what actually happened to the ship and what may still remain to be discovered.

The search begins with the historical record. Old documents, maps and accounts can help establish where the ship was travelling, what happened around the time of its disappearance and where it may have ended up.

From there, the investigation moves into the field, following clues and examining the coastline for evidence that might help narrow down the search.

A genuine sense of discovery sits at the centre of the project. A ship disappeared more than three centuries ago, its final resting place remains uncertain, and somewhere within the story may be the answer to what happened to it.

And then there is the treasure.

Whether the stories of valuable cargo are fact, exaggeration or something in between is part of the investigation. The possibility alone adds another layer to the search and creates a strong reason to keep following the trail.

The project can combine history, maritime archaeology, investigation, adventure, and treasure hunting, while remaining firmly grounded in real evidence and the landscape where the story may have ended.

De Gouden Buys is not simply a story about a ship that disappeared. It is a search for what happened, where it happened and whether anything from that lost voyage can still be found.
